Company ownership search
Find property in England and Wales registered to a UK company or other corporate body. Search by company name, company registration number, title number or address to see the title, tenure, price paid and registered owner.
At least 4 characters. Names containing common words like LIMITED or HOLDINGS need at least 12.
What this search covers
Results come from the HM Land Registry dataset of UK companies that own property in England and Wales, often called CCOD. It lists registered freehold and leasehold titles where the owner is a UK-registered company or another corporate body, such as a local authority, housing association or charity with corporate status.
Property owned by individuals is not in this dataset, so a search for a person's name will not return anything. Companies registered outside the UK appear in a separate Land Registry dataset that this tool does not search.
What each result shows
- Title number: the reference HM Land Registry uses for the registered title. You need it to order the official title register.
- Tenure: whether the company holds the freehold or a lease.
- Price paid: the price recorded on the register, where one was given. Many transfers between companies have no price recorded.
- Proprietor: the company name, registration number, category and address for service as held by Land Registry.
Tips for better results
Use the company number where you can
Company names change and are often spelled in different ways. A Companies House registration number matches exactly, so it is the most reliable way to find everything a company owns.
Keep name and address searches specific
Name and address searches need at least 4 characters. Searches that include very common words, such as LIMITED, LTD, HOLDINGS, PROPERTY or GROUP, need at least 12 characters so the search stays fast. "Example Holdings" works where "Holdings" on its own does not.
Search by title number to check a single property
If you already have a title number from a title register or a search plan, enter it to see whether the owner is a company and which company it is.
Who uses company ownership data
Developers and land agents use it to find out who owns a site before making an approach. Lenders, solicitors and due diligence teams use it to check what property sits behind a company. Researchers use it to map corporate ownership across an area. For any of these at volume, the API returns the same fields as JSON.
Frequently asked questions
Can I find property owned by a person?
No. The dataset only covers titles owned by UK-registered companies and other corporate bodies. To see who owns a property held by an individual, order the title register from HM Land Registry.
Why can I not find a company I know owns property?
The company may own the property through a subsidiary with a different name, the title may be registered under an older company name, or the company may be registered overseas. Searching by company number is the most reliable option.
Why do some results have no price paid?
HM Land Registry only records a price when one was stated on the transfer. Transfers between connected companies, gifts and older registrations often have no price on the register.
How many results can I see?
The free tool shows up to 10 titles per search. The Company ownership API returns up to 50 titles per search, so you can see more of a large portfolio and run searches from your own software.
Is this the same as the official title register?
It is built from HM Land Registry data, but it is not an official copy of the register. For legal work, order the title register and title plan from HM Land Registry.
